Two civilians were killed and six others were injured after Pakistan troops violated ceasefire and opened fire along the international border in Jammu on Friday morning.

Confirming the incident, sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of RS Pora,  Surinder Chaudhary,  told DNA that cross-border shelling has caused heavy damages in the area.

"Two civilians were killed and six others have been injured.  Several houses have suffered damages.  Cattle have also died and injured in the cross border shelling," he said.

The death toll in the past 24 hours has now gone up to four. A BSF head Constable and a 17 year old girl were killed on Wednesday night.

Director General of BSF KK Sharma termed the situation on borders as tense given the ceasefire violations the line of control and the international border.

“We have taken special measures. We are more than ready to meet any challenge. I have told commanders on ground to retaliate with full force and teach them a lesson”, he said.

Sharma said India is a peace loving country and they do not want to create a war like situation. “From time to time we have observed the movement (of terrorists from the other side). We have engaged with them, but they managed to escape,” he added.

Pakistan's fresh provocation comes three days after Indian army in a tit-for-tat action killed seven Pakistan army soldiers including an officer in a sneak in tactical attack on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu division.

Eight soldiers were killed by Pakistani forces on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border since December 23, 2017.   On December 31 last year Pakistan army killed Sepoy Jagsir Singh along the LoC in the Naushera sector of Rajouri district in Jammu division.

Figures presented in the Lok Sabha revealed that Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir 771 times from January 1 to December 10,  2017, and 110 times along the International Border till November-end 2017. Around 30 people including 14 army personnel, 12 civilians and four BSF personnel were killed in these ceasefire violations this year.
