Modi mania seems to have gripped the city BJP and the party seems to be relying too much on it in the Assembly elections. Despite the fact that there are only a few days left for the elections and campaigning should have been on the high at this time, some party workers still have no work to do in the state capital. The reason is absence of any election campaign programme given to them by the BJP.

As a result, some of the workers are canvassing for candidates for the sake of name only while some are busy with their own works. This includes some senior party workers as well.
It is believed that if this continues, then the BJP may succumb to the ‘inaction of its own party workers’.

As per the sources in the party, till last elections, tasks and responsibilities were assigned to all workers and everybody knew what to do and they did whatever task was assigned to them.

Workers at assembly, mandal and ward-level were assigned specific responsibilities and the election campaign programmes kept them busy.

But this time, no such planning is in place. There are over 230 names in the list of party workers in the city BJP, youth wing, Mahila Morcha and former executive, former ward councillors and senior workers.

Most of them in the list are still waiting for assignments in this election. One senior executive member who has to remain in the party office in the absence of any assignment, said that there is no responsibility assigned by the party.

He said he devotes some of the time in his area and spends the remaining part of the day doing his personal work. A senior party worker of Hawa Mahal area said that the party has yet not given any programme, so he is canvassing with the party candidate.

‘Work for party wherever you are’
All current and former city BJP workers have been told to be active with the party candidate in their area. Meanwhile, those workers who have differences with the party candidate are either inactive or are working with no enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the party has assigned some work to senior workers in order to keep them busy. Still there are many workers who do not know what to do in the absence of any guideline by the party.

Workers busy in other constituencies
In absence of any programme by the party, some senior and former members of the executive have left their area and are canvassing for the candidate of their choice in other constituency. This could mar the prospects of the party in elections as workers are busy in other areas leaving the areas where they have strong grip. A member of Mandal executive said that all this is due to the differences between the city BJP and the sitting MLAs.
