JMC approves of Rs1,128 cr budget for 2014-15, keeps Rs280 cr for improving hygiene.
Clean and Green Jaipur - the vision of chief minister Vasundhara Raje was clearly reflecting in the annual budget passed in the general body meeting (GBD) of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) on Thursday.
The civic body increased the budget allocation for sanitation works this year.
The House passed a whopping budget of Rs1,128 crore for the year 2014-15, almost Rs109 crore more than previous year’s budget of Rs1,019 crore. The major share of additional budget will be used for improving sanitation management. The JMC has allocated Rs280 crore for sanitising the municipal areas for the state capital. This amount will be spent on paying salaries to manpower, purchasing resources and vehicles.
Last year, this fund was around Rs222 crore. An amount of Rs60 crore had been kept for collection and transportation of garbage; this is almost 100% hike against Rs30 crore fund allocated last year. The hike in budget clearly shows that the JMC is concentrating on sanitation, which is one of the priorities of Raje government. Mayor Jyoti Khandelwal and sanitation committee chief Roshan Lal Saini presented the budget.
Meanwhile, a probe would also be conducted into all development works sanctioned and completed in the last four years of mayor Khandelwal. After facing allegations of corruption and financial irregularities, the mayor had proposed for instituting a probe, which was approved by all members of the House.
In another development, the JMC would register an FIR against the company which was contracted to recover hoarding fees. The BJP councillors had said that there were irregularities in recovering fees of Rs2.8 crore. Officials were also under fire over this issue. So the House passed the proposal of instituting a probe against the officials and lodging an FIR against the company. BJP councillor Sanjeev Sharma created a drama in the meeting by waving a CD. He said he hadn’t verbally abused the mayor during the executive committee meeting and the recording of the meeting is a proof of it. Sharma said he would move HC against the mayor for defaming him.
