A day after summoning the management of a private school in demanding fees for 15 months instead of 12 months, the Fees Regulatory Committee on Thursday directed the school not to take excess fees and also ordered the management to issue the transfer certificate (TC) of a student.

Chairman of the committee, Justice (retired) Shivkumar Sharma while hearing a parent, Anand Singh, and the management of Step By Step Public School, ordered the school to charge the fees for 12 months and not for 15 months.

Anand Singh had complained that the school was charging excess fees and was also not giving transfer certificate to his child which was required for getting admission in another institution.

“We have given the order asking the school to issue the transfer certificate to the student and not to charge excess fee from the parent,” said Justice (retired) Shivkumar Sharma while speaking to dna.

Earlier, Colonel (retired) Vinay Khosla appeared on behalf of the school management and presented arguments in favour of the school.

He informed the panel that the parents had paid the fees of just 21 months instead of 24 months and an amount of Rs 75,900 was outstanding against the student.

After hearing both sides, the committee pronounced its order.

Relevantly, this is a case in which the committee has given the judgment in just two days after getting the complaint.

The complaint was given to the Fees Regulatory Committee on October 15 after which the committee had summoned the management of Step By Step School on Thursday.

Several parents were also present during the hearing of this matter in Shiksha Sankul to know the decision.

Apart from this, sources said that soon, all the private schools are being asked to prepare an income statement depicting the various heads under which fees is charged from the parents.

This statement will have to be submitted every year by July.
