Wednesday, 25 December 2013 - 12:54pm IST | Place: Jaipur | Agency: DNA

The land settlement department and Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has started the measurement exercise (paimaish) of the 10-bigha government land encroached by self-styled godman Asaram Bapu’s Ashram in Kanota area on Tuesday. The high court had ordered the land settlement department to measure the said land and submit a report.

As per the details, acting on the information that 10-bigha government land has been encroached upon by the ashram, the JDA had issued a notice under section 12 (72) of the JDA Act. In reply, the ashram management had filed an appeal in the JDA Tribunal. Hearing the petition, the tribunal asked JDA to take possession of the land. The JDA then started the measurement exercise ahead of taking possession of the said land but in the meantime, the ashram management moved high court by filing an appeal. Hearing the appeal petition, the high court then ordered the land settlement department to carry out the measurement of the land and submit a report.

Following this order, two teams, each comprising five members of the settlement department and revenue department, and a two-member team of JDA reached the spot on Tuesday to measure the land. The teams will be completing the measurement by Thursday and then the land settlement department will submit a report to the high court.

Deputy commissioner of zone 10A of JDA Ramratan Sharma told dna, “The high court ordered the settlement department to do a measurement (paimaish) of the Ashram land.”
