Jaipur continues to reel under flood

Police and local administration including the Army and the NDRF teams reportedly rescued people in more than a dozen places in Pali, Barmer, Sirohi, and Jalore.

Southwest monsoon continued to come down heavily, with Jaipur witnessing moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday. The hefty rains led to flooding in many parts of the state including Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Kota, Jodhpur, and Barmer districts. Meanwhile, water released from Jawai dam worsened the flood situation in Pali and Barmer. Dams and rivers at Banswara, Pratapgarh, Chittorgarh, and Bundi continued to receive an excess of water flow. Police and local administration including the Army and the NDRF teams reportedly rescued people in more than a dozen places in Pali, Barmer, Sirohi, and Jalore.

Jalore and Pali districts were among the worst affected. Considering the situation, the administration has kept 120 villages on alert. All 12 gates of the Jawai dam were opened on Friday night after Jawai river swelled, making 63,000 cusec water inundating the villages. In the rescue operations at Keria, Agdawa, Tetrol, and Sesawa villages of Sanchore, the NDRF team managed to evacuate 54 people safely. In Sumerpur, five gates of Jawai dam were opened and the administration has declared an alert. A house in Gurha Bhopat of Bagora Panchayat area collapsed due to the heavy rains, leaving a woman injured. In Thakurwas village, a room of a government school collapsed; no casualties were reported.

In Barmer, 40 people were rescued and around a dozen villages in Shiv block of the district lost road connectivity due to the rains.

Three gates of Kota Bairaj dam were opened to release 14,500 cusec water on Saturday as the water level of the dam reached 851 feet. Chittorgarh also saw heavy rainfall as four gates of Ghosunda dam, 7 gates of Badi dam, and 2 gates of Matrikundia dam were opened to release water on Saturday.

No respite
