West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi on Saturday said the Jadavpur University student who had refused to accept medal from him at the convocation did not misbehave.

"She didn't misbehave at all. She declined it (medal) very politely. I didn't say 'get out'. All I said was that if you are not accepting the medal then go back. I told her three times to take it," Tripathi, who is the chancellor of JU, told reporters here at a function.

The medal was the right of the student but she did not take it, he said adding "(it is) not an issue." At the convocation last week, Geetoshree Sarkar, a gold medallist and best student of the Bengali department had refused to accept medals and certificate in the presence of Vice-chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti. The students have been campaigning since September 17 demanding his resignation after a police crackdown during a gherao inside the university's campus.
