The Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday hit-out at Congress Vice President over his speech at the University of California at Berkeley.

"The Idea of non-violence is under attack today. Hatred, anger, and violence can destroy us. The politics of polarisation has raised its ugly head in India," said Rahul Gandhi attacking the BJP.

Stating that the liberal journalist being shot, people being lynched because of being Dalit, Muslims killed on suspicion of eating beef, Congress leader said, "This is new in India and damages India very badly. The politics of hate damages India. Making millions of people feel they have no future in the country."

The Congress leader made the remarks while addressing the students on 'India at 70: Reflections on the Path Forward.'

"Astonishing that Congress VP, Rahul Gandhi goes to US and slams his own Country, India ..It's frustration of Rahul speaking...Deplorable!," BJP leader Sambit Patra said slamming Rahul Gandhi on Twitter.

However, National Conference party leader Omar Abdullah asked Sambit Patra if he would care to share exact quotes where Rahul 'slams his own country'. "It will be most helpful since some of us can't find any," Omar tweeted.

To which, Patra replied, "Omar ji with due respect one example is- When RG says that India is a country of Dynasts "भारत एसे ही चलता है" I believe this is demeaning!

Rahul further alleged the BJP of running a campaign and spreading 'abuses' against him.

"There is a BJP machine - about 1,000 guys sitting on computers and telling you about me. Tremendous machine. All day they spread abuse about me and the operation is run by the 'gentleman' [PM Modi], who is running our country," he alleged.

However, Rahul also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's communication skills saying that the latter 'knows how to give a message to three-four different groups in a crowd, so his messaging ability is very effective and subtle."
