Separatists have called for shutdown, secretariat march and indefinite dharna from Monday against the killings of the militants and civilians in the south Kashmir region on Sunday. Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), has asked people including lawyers, traders, transporters, doctors, government employees, journalists and others to march towards the civil secretariat and stage a sit in till the perpetrators agree to put an end to the daily carnage.

JRL is a conglomerate of Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani, moderate Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, who spearheaded the 2016 unrest in Kashmir.

"While the protest strike will continue, people can move towards the secretariat in their private vehicles or on foot peacefully and with discipline", said the separatist trio.

Sensing trouble, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced closure of all schools, colleges and other educational institutions as a precautionary measure. Mobile internet continues to remain suspended.

The Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said the three decades' long violence in the State is a testimony to the fact that guns from either side cannot ensure peace, but a compassion driven reconciliation process, based on mutual respect, surely can.

Mufti appealed to the national leadership to show compassion and empathy, given the present day situation and display statesmanship to get Jammu and Kashmir out of the quagmire of killings by engaging in a meaningful dialogue in the State.
