Israeli woman rape case: Two persons arrested

Two accused Akshay Rana and Pankaj Sharma have been arrested and probe has been launched to nab other accused.

Two person were on Monday arrested in the alleged rape of a 25-year-old Israeli woman and the car, suspected to have been used in the crime, recovered.

Police found the car from Kullu and arrested two accused Akshay Rana and Pankaj Sharma, while a manhunt has been launched to nab the other accused, Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh said in a release.

Akshay, a resident of Kangra, and Pankaj, from Sarkaghat in Mandi, were employees at a workshop in Kullu, SP of Kullu Padam Chand said.

"Police are scanning the CCTV footage. As it was dark, the visuals are not clear, but we are hopeful of arresting all the accused," he said.

"Due to non-availability of a specialist gynecologist in Mandi, the victim has been sent to Civil Hospital, Bilaspur, for a detailed medical examination. Primary tests suggest that the woman was sexually assaulted," Chand said.

The victim had in a police complaint alleged the accused offered her lift in their car while she was waiting for a cab to get to Lahaul to reunite with friends who had already left for the nearby town.

She said there were six persons in the car and two of them allegedly raped her.

A case was registered in Manali police station on her complaint.
