After triple talaq petitioner Ishrat Jahan, a resident of Howrah district, joined the Bengal unit of BJP, party sources said she is all set to be projected as the face of Muslim girls in the state.

Sources in the Howrah BJP unit said she would be used in a manner to offset the anti-Muslim image of the party.

After she joined the party, she had been assured of a government job, education for her son and a party ticket in the forthcoming byelection for the Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency.

Earlier, senior BJP leaders such as Rahul Sinha and president of the party's women's wing, Locket Chatterjee, had said they would extend all help to Jahan and even she had said that she was living in a terrible condition and would accept help from any quarter. Talking to DNA from her residence in Howrah on Tuesday, Jahan said party leaders had assured her all help including a job, education for her child and a party ticket for fighting an election.

"I was living a penniless life with the only monetary help and mental support coming from my sister. Even after the matter was out in media, none of the political parties, other than BJP, came forward offering help. At the moment, my priority is leading a respectable life and education of my child. They have said I will get a job and my son, the youngest of my four children, who stays with me, would be admitted to a school," she said. Jahan also added that she had talked about Rs 40,000 as legal expenditure she had incurred so far, which she had met by mortgaging her jewellery and had been assured that it would be taken care as well.

Central leaders such as Kailash Vijayvargiya and Shiv Prakash would be in town in the next two days and are likely to meet Jahan to congratulate her on her induction.

She had reportedly been instructed not to interact with TMC leaders if they tried to contact her as it is anticipated that the ruling party leaders would like to hijack her.

One of the party state general secretaries, Sanjay Singh, said her joining the party would increase acceptability of the party among Muslim women. "People would see that a Muslim girl had put her trust in a party which had been touted as anti-Muslim," Singh told DNA.

Asked about what kind of help she would get from the party, he said, "So far, we have not given her any monetary help but now that she belongs to the BJP family, we will definitely extend all help and, if need be, would pitch her as a party candidate as well."
