Padmaavat, the film that unleashed nationwide protests — especially amongst Rajput outfits — against its content and led to renewed debate on censoring films, is now freely available in the Rajasthan capital for a measly Rs 8 on a pendrive! Even as it is a violation of the Copyright Act, with the multiplex association not screening the film altogether, citizens seem to have figured out a workaround. In fact, in the city's Mahesh Nagar area, it is in high demand with people opting to see the film in the privacy of their homes.

Students, usually prime customers, managed to get their hands on a pirated copy on Friday, a day after its release across the country. "The movie was downloaded the very next day when it became available. It is in high demand due to the controversy, but is priced, like the others, at Rs 8," said Harish, a shop owner near Mahesh Nagar Phatak.

When Mahipal Singh Makrana, Karni Sena President found out that the film was freely available in the city, he responded, "I will look into this and send some supporters to verify. Our aim was that the film not be allowed to screen in theaters, which has been achieved."

Meanwhile, the police has said that they cannot act unless the film's producers file a complaint in this regard. "This is a matter related to violation of Copyright Act and if they want action, the producer needs to file a complaint," said Suresh Kumar, Dy Sp with the cyber cell.
