In place of the mandatory documents needed to procure a US visa, the IRCTC website now merely asks interested users to visit the US Department of State website, at http://travel.state.gov. However, the change appears to have been made for the US alone, as the Europe page still retains the contentious clause.
IRCTC sources have confirmed that this was changed for tour packages for people interested in visiting the US. "We were just following the industry practice," said an IRCTC official.
Officials claimed these international tour packages were getting a good response, and the IRCTC ferried 2,400 passengers in 85 different packages in 2018-19.
