After the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) courted controversy this week by demanding honeymooning couples who wished to go to the US to submit an NOC from the bride's parents, it has now scaled back on this demand. In place of the mandatory documents needed to procure a US visa, the IRCTC website now merely asks interested users to visit the US Department of State website, at http://travel.state.gov. However, the change appears to have been made for the US alone, as the Europe page still retains the contentious clause.

IRCTC sources have confirmed that this was changed for tour packages for people interested in visiting the US. "We were just following the industry practice," said an IRCTC official.

Officials claimed these international tour packages were getting a good response, and the IRCTC ferried 2,400 passengers in 85 different packages in 2018-19.

However, when DNA Checked the list of documents needed to tour Europe, the website still has the 'visa requirement' section for people from Mumbai. It includes just two heads: The cost of documentation, processing and consulate fees for a Schengen visa, and the countries where the Schengen visa is valid.

However, when we checked for Europe tours, starting from Chennai and Bhopal, documents needed for procuring the visa were more elaborate. Honeymooning couples from these cities who visit to tour Europe have to procure a marriage certificate or an NOC from the bride's parents, in addition to the wedding invitation
