The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate charges against Samajwadi Party patriarch and former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav for threatening a senior IPS officer over telephone.

Deepak Kumar, Lucknow SSP, said that the team would be led by Circle Officer Bazar Khala Anil Yadav. Hazratganj Sub-Inspector Brajendra Kumar, SI Bazar Khala Raj Kumar, constables Ghanshyam and Pattan Khan will also be part of the SIT team that will look into the charges against Mulayam for allegedly threatening Amitabh Thakur, a senior IPS officer.

"The team has been directed to take the voice sample of accused Mulayam Singh Yadav for forensic test. They will have to submit the result at the Allahabad High Court," SSP Kumar said.

Earier, the Cirle Officer Hazratganj Abhay Kumar Mishra was investigating the case. After Mishra's transfer, the case had almost come to a standstill as Mulayam Singh Yadav had refused to give voice sample even after the Allahabad High Court notice.

The former CM is accused of threatening Amitabh Thakur on July 10, 2015 over telephone. Thakur had taped the entire conversation for nearly ten minutes in which Mulayam had threatened him to mend his ways or face the consequences.

Thakur had leaked the tape to the media and had also lodged a case against the SP patriarch. The IPS officer had filed a case at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court when no headway was made in the case during Akhilesh Yadav regime.

The High Court had directed the then investigating officer to take the voice sample of Mulayam Singh Yadav and submit the forensic report to the court for ascertaining if the threat call was actually made by him. The then investigating office had gone to Mulayam's residence twice following the High Court order, but the SP leader has showed no willingness to give the voice sample.

Now on the request of the IPS officer, Yogi government has constituted a SIT team to investigate the charges.
