The Crime Branch Unit 5 of Mumbai Police busted a interstate cheating racket on Saturday by arresting three accused, hailing from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The accused have been identified as Shivkumar Kishenlal Rathod(33), KanhaiyaKumar Prajapati(26), Shantidevi Kishenlal Prajapati(42) According to police, the gang have allegedly cheated many people from Mumbai, Kanpur, Allahabad, and Delhi. They used to show prospective targets an old and fake gold coin, saying its real gold and they have found it in a field and they could provide six kgs of such coins at a cheap rate.

"The modus operandi of the accused was that they showed one old gold coin to people stating that they found the said gold coin in a field and they have nearly 6 kilograms of similar gold coins for sell in cheaper rate than that in the market. They took money from unsuspecting people and cheated them." said crime branch officer.

"We were following their movements and recently got a tip-off that the gang members were going to visit suburban Bandra West on Saturday and arrested them near a theatre." he added
The police have recovered 6,345 fake gold coins from them and are investigating the matter further.
