Interested in joining NSG? You'll have to undergo a psychology test

The elite National Security Guard (NSG) commandos, popularly known as Black Cats, will now have to undergo a comprehensive psychology test at the entry-level, before being inducted into the Force. The NSG commandos undertake special counter-terror and counter-hijack operations.

The elite forces till now used to select cadets from Army and paramilitary troops and put them under rigorous physical and mental strength tests to join the commando conversion course (CCC).

Soldiers desirous of joining the NSG will now have to undergo a special capsule of psychology tests and questions during the three-month CCC. A senior home ministry official stated that a threshold mark has to be obtained by a soldier in the psychology test, like qualifying the other physical and mental parameters in order to join the Force.

Modelled on the lines of German force Grenzschutzgruppe 9 (GSG 9), the NSG is used to counter special circumstances. The force had a 'pressing' need for a full-time psychologist in its commando selection panel and experts of this domain have recently been hired in the NSG, the home ministry official added. The new system of induction will ensure that physically and mentally fit personnel are inducted into the force to become and perform as the best commando unit of the country, the official said.
