\Residents of Kanadia road alleged that the officers changed the central reference line marked for the measurement of road for the widening work and posed resistance during the anti-encroachment drive on Kanadia Road on Tuesday. The officers,  however, overruled their objections and pressed police force to disperse the crowd which disrupted the operation.

“Although we faced resistance from people, we cleared all the identified 111 obstructions on the road,” said IMC deputy commissioner MPS Arora.

Teams of Indore Municipal Corporation and administration reached Kanadia Road for removal of remaining 39 constructions coming in the way of proposed 120 feet six-lane road from Bypass to Bengali Square. The teams supported by police force started the demolition but were interrupted by residents who raised objection on the marking.

Rajesh Joshi, resident of the area, claimed that he had dismantled the front portion of his house according to the marking put by the officers three days ago and the notice served to him. The markings were done according to a central line marked by the officers.

“Now they have taken another central line for reference and according to the new measurement extra seven feet of my house was demolished,” alleged Joshi.

Similarly, Sunita Jain alleged that the officers have manipulated the measurements and thereby demolished almost half of her house.

People exchanged heated arguments with the officers to convince them but all their arguments and objections were overlooked. Police officers were deployed in to contain the people who tried to stop the operation. Police used mild force to disperse the crowd.

The marked portions of the constructions were razed to ground by the JCBs and poclain machine.

The team faced resistance by the local corporator Sunil Paridar when removal action was initiated at his super market. He not only exchanged heated arguments with the officers but also sat in front of JCBS and poclain machine to disrupt the proceedings. He was removed forcibly and the construction was removed as per the marking.

How the road is measured?
The central line is marked in the master plan as per the measurements. The engineers  measure the existing road as per the map and mark its central line for widening purpose, said Deputy Commissioner MPS Arora. Arora clarified that  people were confused about central line as fresh chalk markings were done on the central line to facilitate the officials in measurement. “Every construction was measured with respect to the central line in front of the officers and the residents to ensure that the demolition was done according to the measurement,” added Arora.
