He has given the city its iconic structures like Fortune Landmark, Ansal Town, Shalimar Township, and Kalindi Midtown. Now architect Rajkumar Vaswani is taking development  right to the street level, literally.

The 43-year-old has started a series of social and development works for the upliftment of residents of Dheeraj Nagar. “My father was initially into social work but we were never directly involved in helping the masses. But somewhere in my heart I had that spirit of direct involvement,” says Vaswani.

“In Dheeraj Nagar, there is no proper drainage or sewage. Rains bring with them host of communicable diseases.  We started the development work with the help of local Aanganwadi by conducting workshops on health and then a session on waste management by renowned environmentalist Bhalu Mondhe”.

Asked about the challenges he and his team face while carrying out the works, he says, “Initially, many parents used to send their kids for all around development, but slowly the response decreased and we seemed to be losing the momentum.”

But this did not deter Vaswani. He still reached out to the residents and extended his helping hand to the ones who needed it most. “We are trying to involve the elite class as well. And they are helpful enough to finance us--but nobody takes an initiative to get directly involved with the kids and the down-trodden sections of the society.” he says.

“We will take this campaign of helping people to a new level. We are trying to tap social media and ask like- minded people to come along.,”  he adds.

“There are many elite in Indore who have never seen this part of the city where there is no sanitation and no money to live a decent life. We want some of these people to explore the streets of Dheeraj Nagar,” he says.

Talking about the kids he takes care of, he says,” We have come up with a dance workshop for the kids. We are also talking to Arts School in Ranthambore for training these kids so that they can become financially stable after completing their training”.
