The health condition of students on fast for admission to MGM college has deteriorated on Sunday. While two were evicted from the fasting venue and admitted to MY hospital, another student fell unconscious at 10 pm during a candle light meeting.

In an early morning swoop, the administration evicted the students staging hunger strike since last four days. At 6.30 am the police lifted the two students and admitted them to the MY Hospital. Simultaneously, the municipal corporation employees hurriedly removed the temporary structure set up by the students and quietly drove away.

The students supporting the agitating bunch rushed to hospital. “Nine of us were present when the officials and about 15-20 police and municipal workers came in the morning and hurriedly evicted us without listening to us,” said one of the supporter who was present in the morning.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Shyamendra Jaiswal, D K Nagendra, Sanyogitaganj Police and a few municipal workers were in the eviction party.

“Doctors, who had conducted blood tests on them, suggested that it will be life threatening for them if they continued the fast any further. We did it in their interest.  We cannot allow them to die in any case,” said SDM Jaiswal.

“Their blood ketone level, pulse and blood sugar levels have drastically gone down in last three-four days. Their weight has also fallen. One of them was unable to stand properly,” said Jaiswal.

However students resisted doctors from administering any fluids into the body till evening, later Kadam Raj Kol’s condition deteriorated more than the other two, and he was administered IV fluids to avoid dehydration.

Poonam Sharma and Krishna Kumar Mourya,  who were resisting till late evening, also received IV fluids.

100 take part in candle light march

The students sought support from the public and staged a candle light march on Sunday evening from Chappan (56) to MGM Medical College. About 100 people had gathered in support for them. Students of Dental and MGM Medical College also came forward to support them. The march started at 6pm from Chappan square and ended at the medical College.

“We are demanding our rights peacefully”

The students on hunger strike at MGM College compound did not have any written permission from the administration. However, they claim that when they went to IMC and Sanyogitaganj police station they were orally told to undertake the protest. “We are in no way creating any nuisance; neither were we using mikes nor have destroyed any property, we were demanding our rights peacefully,” said Zakir Hussain, one of the supporters.
