A woman sub-inspector, currently on probation, has lodged a complaint with Deputy Inspector General of police (DIG) alleging she was sexually harassed by a sub-inspector posted at SP (East) office .

DIG Rakesh Gupta, while acknowledging that a complaint has been received, said the matter has been forwarded to a committee set up in cases of workplace harassment as per guidelines of the Supreme Court.

"The further course of action will be decided as per recommendations of the committee which has started investigation into the charges," Gupta said.

In her complaint, the woman SI said that she had come in contact with the officer during her visit to SP office where she approached him for sanction of leave.

Since communication with him was official, she said she had no objection talking to him. However, later he started making advances towards her and proposed her for marriage, she alleged in the complaint.

When she turned down the proposal, he issued life threats to her and even sent such messages on her phone.

SP (East) OP Tripathi said that he came to know of the matter only when the complaint was lodged.

Since, the matter is related to a department, the officer refrained from making any comment on it.
A departmental inquiry has been initiated into the matter.
