IMC officials have taken all the necessary measures to avoid resistance by the residents during the anti-encroachment drive to be conducted at the road linking Janjeerwala Square to Malwa Mill square. IMC officials have faced stiff resistance from the residents in the recent drives with the the task of measurement and marking of the roads but the engineers and officers are doing calculations in order to ensure that people do not get any point to raise objection this time.

The widening of this road has been under dispute for past two years. In previous attempts to remove encroachments, strong resistance from people backed up by political leaders was observed.

“We do not want to invite troubles and thus we are taking cautious steps this time,” said GS Kanthel, building officer IMC.

The work of conducting inspection for the purpose was given to Tehsildar and building officer of IMC as people have registered objection on the centre line.

“Things will be finalised and the report will be submitted to the Collector. Decision to start the anti-encroachment drive will be taken by the higher authorities,” added Kanthel.

The road is under the master plan and will be connected to the road ahead of Malwa Mill Square which is already widened. The other roads from Malwa Mill Square were widened to reduce the traffic pressure and to provide direct connectivity from Geeta Bhawan to Malwa Mill.

However due to resistance from people on this portion, the road widening could not be done.
Former minister and present MLA Mahendra  Hardia too had raised objection and supported people in the protest against the anti-enroachment drives planned by IMC in past. Due to political interference the work has been delayed for two years.

However, the officers are optimistic this time as anti-encroachment drive has been successfully done on three major roads including Banganga, Kesarbagh and Kanadia road despite resistance by people.

PREPARATIONS
The officers will give the details of existing width, centre line and other specifications for the proposed road and the obstructions coming in the way of road widening as per master plan. If any changes are made, the residents will be served notices accordingly. GS Kanthel said that as many as 110 permanent structures and 115 kiosks have been identified for removal from the road.
