Indore: Man gets 10 years in jail for kidnapping, raping minor

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to ten years rigorous imprisonment by a local court in Indore after it found him guilty of kidnapping and raping a minor girl for a month.

Special Judge Savita Singh awarded the sentence to Mohan Shersingh on the basis of testimony of ten witnesses under Section 376 (rape) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,500 on him to be paid as compensation to the survivor.

Shersingh was found guilty of kidnapping and raping the 13-year-old girl, public prosecutor Ravindra Desai told reporters, adding that the convict was a neighbour of the victim.

The girl was kidnapped on October 17, last year and taken by the convict to Khargone and Dhar districts, where he raped her, the public prosecutor said. He said that the police rescued the girl and arrested Shersingh on November 12, 2013.
