Train journeys from Indore are likely to be much easier by the month of April with proposed boost in amenities on offer by the Western Railways.

A modern station complex and two new platforms would be operational by March end in the city. These facilities are being developed by the Western Railway’s Ratlam division close to Rajkumar railway overbridge. The facility would be equipped with division’s first underpass.

Till now the facilities are limited at Indore railway station which is ill-equipped to handle huge influx of passengers. The limited amenities at present cater to the movement of 70 trains.

Spokesperson Western Railways Ratlam Division Pradeep Sharma said that at present there are only three tracks at the railway station and one of these tracks is equipped to handle trains with 20 coaches. The remaining could receive 24 coach trains. However the railway administration is busy developing a modern station building at Rajkumar bridge. This elevated structure would offer commuters space at the ground floor and would have ticket booking counters, waiting halls etc on the first floor. The complex would offer sufficient parking facilities.

The track would be equipped for halting trains with 24 coaches and would be extended to 26 coach facility in future.

The complex would have Ratlam division’s first underpass. The four -wheelers could drop the passengers close to the underpass and would move out through a separate exit. This would also help disabled and senior passengers.

Sharma affirmed that project is in progress but added that a temple is to be relocated and railway also requires 0.8 hectare land owned by Rajkumar Mill for the project.
