Following the complaints of stray animals on city streets leading to filth and traffic snarls, the district administration has announced a ban on the cattle rearing within the municipal limits.

District collector P Narhari has imposed the prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC to ban cattle rearing within the municipal limits, an official release said.

It said penal action would be taken against the animal keepers, if they violate this order.

The district authorities have also told the animal keepers to shift the cattle from the city areas, where this ban has been imposed, within seven days.

Of late, some instances of confrontation between the municipal authorities and animal keepers were reported from here during the campaign against the stray animals.

In February, a 26-year old municipal employee was allegedly stabbed to death during one such campaign.
