The Indore Development Authority board on Tuesday took many significant steps to provide affordable housing.

The board members stressed on developing affordable housing projects and urged the district collector to give relaxation in guideline rates for the lands marked for developing affordable houses for low-income group families.

“District collector Akash Tripathi has assured us and send our demand for approval by the state government,” said the newly appointed chairman of IDA, Shankar Lalwani.

The board members also reduced supervision charge to 3 percent from 16 percent for ongoing construction in ‘Atal Ashraya Yojana’ at Jhumarghat and Nihalpur Mundi for developing 302 flats/houses for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and 432 flats/houses for and Lower Income Group (LIG).

The step will help in reducing the prices of the flats/houses in both of these schemes.

Taking another step to facilitate the urban poor, the board members decided to send a proposal to the state government and the district administration to provide government lands at minimum premium to develop flats/houses for the families belong to EWS and LIG category.

The board members also revised rates of flats developed in three categories in its Scheme 155. The flats of first and second categories will be sold out on lottery system with an approximate rate of around Rs 12 and 19 lakh respectively while tenders will be invited to sell the flats of third category starting from Rs 24.32 lakh.

“Our first priority is to provide affordable housing to the urban poor and such steps will help us to reduce cost of the flats/houses meant for them” said Lalwani.

It was first meeting after the political board members took charge on December 12.  Akash Tripathi, IMC Commissioner Rakesh Singh, IDA CEO Deepak Singh and officials from PWD, PHE, T&CP, forest  and other departments were present.
