The district election officer has approved 10 per cent hike in dearness allowance along with arrear amount to the employees working with the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC).

The civic body had sought the election officer's consent about benefitting the employees after enforcement of the model code of conduct.

The employees were demanding to get 10 per cent of dearness allowance along with due benefits of 6th Central Pay Commission for the last one and a half year.

The state government has benefitted its employees by releasing four out of five installments of their respective arrear amounts as instructed by Centre. However, IMC employees were so far given only one installment of their pending arrear amount. Following which, around 2,500 workers and officer grade employees working with the corporation had approached IMC commissioner Rakesh Singh to clear their dues by this Diwali.

"In order to avoid the matter for some time, IMC threw the ball in the district election officer's court saying that his consent would be needed to release the amount after enforcement of model code of conduct," said secretary of IMC workers' association, Rajendra Yadav. "Election officer’s nod on Thursday, gave employees a reason to celebrate upcoming festivities in a grand way," added Yadav. IMC deputy commissioner, Abhay Rajangawkar, however, asked to give the arrear amount in partial mode of payment.
