Indore’s Dawoodi Bohra community was in deep grief as the news of their spiritual leader Dr Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin’s demise came on Friday.

The spiritual leader died following cardiac arrest in Mumbai.

The community will keep their business, work and community’s six schools close for three days.
“It is not easy for us to come out from such sad news easily. We will not do anything at least till Sunday,” informs spokesperson Burhanuddin Shakruwala.

There are almost 25,000 community members in Indore. A lot of them have immediately left for Mumbai to attend Syedna’s funeral. “I can not resist myself from paying a last tribute to Syedna Sahab. One cannot simply explain his contribution in words,” says businessman Murtaza Alirajpura who has left for Mumbai along with eight other family members.

Similarly, another businessman Haider Ali will also attend the funeral ceremony without being sure of his travel arrangements to Mumbai. “I can’t think of anything else. We had never expected this to happen especially when his birthday was so close,” Haider gets emotional.

While some of them are on their way to Mumbai, others gathered at Saifi Nagar mosque in their traditional attire where they will chant Quran and offer prayers for Syedna.

“I have stopped all my research work and will spend maximum time in mosque,” says scientist Ali Asgar Bohra.
