BJYM state vice-prez who was a close aide of late Prakash Sonkar will take on Cong MLA.
Ending prolonged suspense, BJP endorsed candidature of BJYM state vice-president Rajesh Sonkar from Sanwer, as part of the second list of 64 candidates announced on Wednesday.
Rajesh would now challenge the candidature of Congress sitting MLA Tulsiram Silawat, who has geared up for consecutive third term as MLA. The BJP had announced candidates for eight assembly constituencies of Indore in the first list by holding the name for Sanwer constituency amid lack of consensus on any single name.
Rajesh has remained a close associate of former Sanwer MLA and state minister late Prakash Sonkar, whose son Sawan Sonkar was the frontrunner in the race of ticket.
However, the party which had tasted defeat when it had backed the candidature of late minister's wife, Nisha in 2008 elections, ultimately played it safe this time by opting for Rajesh Sonkar.
Rajesh--who pursued MA-LLB and is presently undertaking research work, has been associated with construction business and farming. Representing majority caste in the area -Scheduled Caste, Rajesh has been associated with RSS since early age and served student wing ABVP for years, before jumping into the mainstream politics.
Presently, Rajesh is a member of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) state executive committee, state co-ordinator of Kamal Club and state vice-president of the BJP youth wing. Rajesh has been actively participating in various social and cultural activities.
Reacting on his candidature, Rajesh Sonkar said that Sanwer has been lagging behind in development ever since MLA Prakash Sonkar passed away. He lashed at Congress MLA for his 'inactiveness' which led to 'lackluster' growth in the constituency. "The public now wants development and knows that BJP is synonymous to growth and development," he claimed.
