Former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday claimed the proposed National Security Advisor-level talks between India and Pakistan will be a "dialogue of the deaf" and that BJP has "deviated" from its stated policy regarding talks with Pakistan. He said "this has been a clearly stated policy of BJP that we will not countenance terror and as terror and talks do not go together. Therefore, in the 10 years rule of UPA, we had criticised Manmohan Singh personally and the UPA government for departing from BJP's position."

India invited Sartaj Aziz earlier this month to a meeting with his counterpart Ajit Doval in New Delhi on August 23 and 24. PM Narendra Modi and Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif had agreed during their talks in Russia last month on convening a meeting of the national security advisers to discuss issues relating to terrorism.

Speaking to NDTV, Sinha said that terror and talks don't go hand in hand was the belief during Vajpayee's time, and the Indo-Pak NSA talks is a reverse to this Vajpayee-established policy. The former Foreign Minister also said that for every argument by India, Pakistan will have a counter-argument.

"India will ask for Hafiz Saeed, Pakistan will ask for Aseemanand. India will talk about 26/11 attacks, Pakistan will talk about Samjhauta blasts. For every dossier, they will have a counter dossier. Therfore, these talks at the NSA level will be a dialogue of the deaf. There will be no outcome we will be exactly where we are before the talks," Sinha told the TV channel.

He further added that after the day PM Modi and Nawaz Sharif met in Russia last month, there has been no let up but only more terror attacks.

Aziz will travel to India on August 23 for talks with his counterpart Ajit Doval. India had cancelled Foreign Secretary-level talks in August last year after the Pakistan High Commissioner in New Delhi held consultations with Kashmiri separatists.

The issue of bail to the main accused in the Samjhauta train bombing will be taken up by Pakistan, officials said. The Pakistani officials said the regular skirmishes on the Line of Control (LoC) will also be part of discussions. Officials said Pakistan is well prepared to counter India on the alleged delay in the completion of trial of those alleged to be involved in Mumbai attacks and granting of bail to Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
