Winds of peace appears to have started blowing on the Line of Control (LoC) after the Indian and Pakistani army agreed to defuse the tension in a last ditch effort to deescalate the explosive situation on the borders.

A brigade commander-level flag meeting was held between the Indian and Pakistan army at Chakan-da-Bagh on the LoC in the Poonch district of Jammu on Monday to discuss the growing ceasefire violations on the LoC.

Pakistani delegation was led by Brigadier Osman while the Indian delegation was led by Brigadier HS Sareen, Commander 120 Brigade. The meeting started at 11.30am on Monday and lasted for an hour. Both the commanders exchanged greetings and pleasantries before getting down to the real business.

"The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and issues regarding ongoing ceasefire violations, targeting of civilians and sniping action on Line of Control were discussed," said SN Acharya, officiating defence spokesperson at Jammu.

It was decided that both sides would exercise restraint and take steps to deescalate the situation on the LoC. "Both sides have mutually agreed to exercise restraint and take steps to defuse the situation," said Acharya.
Official figures reveal that there has been 199 ceasefire violations by Pakistan from January 1 to June 30, 2015 in which two soldiers and two civilians were killed.

The meeting was held on the day when union home minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Jammu and Kashmir on a three-day visit and batted for the peace and good neighbourly relations with Pakistan and China.
