Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that the Indo-Bangladesh bilateral relations are going through a phase of ‘Shonali Adhyaya’ (Golden Era).

During the inaugural ceremony of Bangla Bhawan Bangladesh Bhawan, Prime Minister Modi said issues such as coastal border issues, which had been once difficult to handle, have now been resolved.

He further highlighted several newly-started projects between the two countries including the Kolkata-Khulna air-conditioned railway line, Bandhan which was inaugurated in 2017.

He further talked of the power-supply provided to Bangladesh as he said that currently, India is exporting 600 megawatts of electricity which will be increased to 1100 megawatts in the current year.

He hailed the ever-developing transit connections between two countries via road, rail, water, and air.

‘The connectivity routes which had been left abandoned since 1965 are being re-developed and a new chapter has been added in the Indo-Bangladesh bilateral connections’ Prime Minister Modi said.

Recalling the struggle of Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, Prime Minister Modi said, ‘though the Bangladesh Liberation War took place on the other side of the border, the inspiration to fight against the injustice has been taken from India and on the other hand the atrocities committed upon the people of Bangladesh have been equally felt by Indians.’

On the other hand, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invoked former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who was instrumental in securing the complete independence of Bangladesh (then called East Pakistan) from then West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan).

Prime Minister said that the words and lyrics of poet-author Rabindranath Tagore have reaped the Indo-Bangladesh relations.
