Remember Hamid Nehal, the Indian youth who illegally went to Pakistan to meet a girl he had met online, but was arrested and spent three years in a Pakistan jail? Turns out he wasn't the only one who moved borders for love. Tina, a girl from Chandigarh, had reportedly visited Pakistan in October 2018, and even converted to Islam, in order to marry a Pakistan national. But today, she finds herself trapped, as her husband Suleman has kept her in captivity.

India has raised the issue of Tina with Pakistan repeatedly, but Islamabad's response is still awaited. New Delhi has even sent four note verbales, but still got no response.

“We await a formal response from Pakistan's foreign ministry on our request to locate and repatriate the Indian citizen,” said a spokesperson of the Indian high commission.

The case holds several parallels with Hamid Nehal's saga. Hamid was repatriated last year after spending six years in a Pakistan jail. The 33-year-old had sneaked in to Pakistan via Afghanistan in 2012 after befriending and falling in love with a Pakistani girl.

Hamid, a software engineer by profession, was slapped with espionage charges by Pakistan, following which he spent six years in a Peshawar jail. According to official sources, India issued 96 notes verbales to Pakistan seeking consular access to Ansari. The decision to finally release him was also taken due to relentless pressure from New Delhi.

Another similar story was of Uzma Ahmed, an Indian citizen who fell in love with Pakistan national Tahir Ali. The couple met in Malaysia, after which she went to his village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Later in Buner district of the province, she was asked to marry him, but she managed to escape and reached the Indian high commission. With their help, she returned to India
