India is still a passive country when it comes to taking a stand against terrorism. It should, in fact, take an extremist stance and must prove that it can also create a Kashmir-like situation in Pakistan, said Rajya Sabha MP and senior BJP leader Arun Shourie, who delivered lectures at Gujarat Law Society (GLS) and Justice PD Desai Memorial hall on Saturday.

There are many places like Baluchistan, where a Kashmir-like situation can be created but, “hum abhi bhi Panchsheel ke pujari hain (We still worship the tenets of Panchsheel)”, said the former minister while addressing a gathering of law students and members of GLS alumni association on ‘The threat to internal security that the nation is facing today.’

The senior BJP leader said, “Pakistan has been successfully carrying out destruction in India for the last two decades and has still managed to escape problems, while India on every occasion has failed to present a unified response to terrorism and has suffered as a consequence.”

“There have been countless incidents after the independence which has disrupted peace in the country. Be it the issue of Telangana, trouble in Punjab, North-East or Kashmir, we have only remained silent and with every fresh incidents the situation has only got worse,” Shourie said.

He also said that India should take its own stand in fighting terrorism instead of approaching other countries like the US, for help. “Every country has its own strategies on which they never compromise. If our country cannot be firm in its decisions, I do not see how US or any other country can help India in its objectives,” Shourie said.

Is desh me baat hi ka kaam hota hai, Kaam ki baat nahi hoti hai (India has only been talking instead of taking serious action),” said Shourie while citing examples of failure on part of the Maharashtra and the central government to act responsibly during Mumbai attack despite various tip offs.

Talking on the issue of Islamic terrorism, Shourie said that American hold in Iraq and Afghanistan is likely to be uprooted, and in that case it will be a winning situation for Islamic terror outfits.

When DNA asked him about his take on Malegaon blast and the involvement of saffron outfits in the blasts, the BJP leader said that he had already predicted these unfortunate incidents and he would not be surprised if incidents like the Mumbai terror attack happen again in the country.

While answering to anti terror squad chief Ajay Tomar, who asked if we are responding to the 26/11 situation by creating a national intelligence agency, Shourie said, “We do need an investigation agency but not like the CBI, which cannot work on its own discretion,”

Shourie also addressed at Justice PD Desai Memorial Hall, where he said that laws such as Pota and Tada have become a necessity to prevent terrorism and its sponsors.
