India is on the fast growth track under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Osamu Suzuki, the Chairman and CEO of the Suzuki Motors told a delegation of visiting Indian parliamentarians here.
Interacting with a five-member multi-party delegation of Indian parliamentarians at the Suzuki Motors headquarters at Hamamatsu, Suzuki said Prime Minister Modi has injected a new sense of confidence in the Indian economy, and added that the nation is on a fast track of growth under his leadership.
Suzuki further revealed that Japanese companies are very enthusiastic about investing in India in the wake of the recent summit-level meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the former agreeing to help Prime Minister Modi's skill development mission by opening a center in Gujarat to help Indian youth develop technological skills. "India is young, and Mr. Modi enjoys absolute majority. That makes a lot of difference," Mr. Suzuki told the Indian parliamentarians.
He said the government of Prime Minister Modi is capable of taking some hard decisions to improve investment atmosphere. He said earlier he thought India might be able to surpass China in terms of economic growth by 2050, but now, he felt, that under Modi, the Indian economy is on a faster track, and this looks achievable much earlier.
Replying to Suzuki's warm welcome, Tarun Vijay, senior BJP leader and leader of the Indian parliamentary delegation, said that though the parliamentarians in the delegation belonged to different parties, all of them shared a vision to see India grow at a faster speed and ensure that the nation's manufacturing sector is strengthened. He said there was unanimity in parliament to improve bilateral relations with Japan, which enjoys the highest level of mutual trust cemented by age-old civilizational ties.
Apart from Vijay, the Indian delegation's visit, which has been co-sponsored by CII, included Mukut Mithi (Congress), Pawan Varma (JD-U), Sukhendu Shekhar Roy (TMC) and Anupriya Patel (Apna Dal). The delegation is in Japan on a theme tour of energy cooperation and has visited many thermal and solar power stations, besides meeting high officials and ministers.
It is the first parliamentary delegation to visit Japan after Prime Minister Modi's successful visit to that country in September this year. Vijay said the atmosphere in Japan has magically changed after the Modi-Abe Summit, and cooperation in the energy sector has become a high priority issue on the bilateral radar between the two countries.
