In what may come become a major concern for India, Chinese experts of population studies have said that India will become the world's most populous country, surpassing China even before the year 2027, a forecast by the United Nations. In China, the birth rate has been declining in the last few years.

The United Nations had said in a report published in the year 2019 that the population of India is expected to increase by about 27.3 crore people between now and the year 2050. It was predicted in the report that by 2027, India will become the world's most populous country, overtaking China. According to the report, India will remain the most populous country by the end of this decade. According to UN figures, in 2019, India's population was around 1.37 billion while China had 1.47 billion. China's population has increased by 0.53 percent to 1.41178 crore as compared to 2019, although this rate of population growth is the slowest in the country. In 2019, the population was 1.4 billion.

The status of China as the most populous country is still intact, although according to official estimates, this number may decline by next year, which can lead to a shortage of labour and decline in consumption levels. In such a situation, it will also have an impact on the economic scenario of the country. According to the seventh national census data released by the Chinese government on Tuesday, including all 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, China's population has increased to 1.41178 billion, which is 5.8 percent or 7.2 crore more than the 2010 figures.

China's newspaper Global Times on Wednesday quoted Chinese experts of population studies as saying that India's population may exceed that of China before the year 2027. Expecting a decline in China's fertility rate in the coming years, experts predicted that India with its high fertility rate will overtake China by 2023 or 2024 to become the world's most populous country.

China faces the risk of a declining fertility rate as 1.2 crore babies were born in the country in the year 2020 and this is the fourth consecutive year the decline in fertility rate has been recorded.

Experts say that China's fertility rate will continue to decline in the coming years and may even be the lowest in the world. In the year 2016, China had given permission to have two children, prohibiting its 'One Child Policy', in view of the population-related crisis.
