'India is ready to do whatever possible to help our friends': PM Modi on COVID-19 crisis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that India needs to jointly fight the coronavirus pandemic with other countries, adding that the country is ready to do whatever is possible to help our friends' to combat the deadly virus.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that India needs to jointly fight the coronavirus pandemic with other countries, adding that the country is ready to do whatever is possible to help our friends' to combat the deadly virus.

"We have to jointly fight this pandemic. India is ready to do whatever is possible to help our friends. Praying for the well-being and good health of the people of Israel," Modi tweeted.

Modi's comment was in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comment thanking him for the supply of Chloroquine, an antimalarial drug that is now being used to treat COVID-19 patients.

Moreover, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro also thanked Prime Minister Modi for the supply of Chloroquine. In response Modi tweeted, "Thank you President Jair Bolsonaro. The India-Brazil partnership is stronger than ever in these challenging times. India is committed to contribute to humanity's fight against this pandemic."

President of the United States of America Donald Trump on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India delivering the order of the hydroxychloroquine drug that the US had requested for, to deal with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, which is spreading like wildfire across the globe, with the US at the frontline.

Trump said that it was terrific and that the United States will 'remember' this act by India.

"I want to thank Prime Minister Modi for allowing us to have what we requested. He was terrific, we will remember it," said US President Donald Trump at a White House press briefing with the Coronavirus Task Force.

India has also given a green signal to the order of the hydroxychloroquine drug of two other countries -- Spain and Australia. Both these countries had placed an order for the drug earlier. India has received requests from 30 countries for HCQ from every part of the globe, including from Gulf and Malaysia.

India is the largest producer of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ).
