Income Tax department raids top bureaucrats in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi

The Income Tax (IT) department is conducting raids at premises of several top bureaucrats across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, in connection with its probe against them on charges of tax evasion.

Several I-T teams have covered at least 15 premises of the officers in Lucknow, Noida, Greater Noida, Meerut, Baghpat, Mainpuri and Delhi since early morning.

Houses of Meerut range Road Transport Officer (RTO) Mamta Sharma and former Baghpat District Magistrate (DM) and Director Health​ Harinath Tewari have been raided.

The Income Tax department have also conducted raids on former Ghaziabad District Magistrate (DM) Vimal Sharma.

The I-T officials said the department had been investigating charges of tax evasion against them.

The department had carried out similar raids against some other UP bureaucrats last month.
