Incidents of communal violence have increased: AAP

Thursday, 7 August 2014 - 10:07pm IST | Agency: PTI

Aam Aadmi today alleged that the number of incidents of communal violence in the country has increased after BJP-led-NDA government came to power and it was a matter of great concern.

Communal situation has become bad to worse especially in states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said, delivering a lecture on 'Future of Alternative Politics' at the Press Club here.

Stating that it was a serious development, Yadav alleged that incidents of communal violence have occurred in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in constituencies where bypolls are due, after BJP came to power.

However, he said BJP coming to power and rout of Congress has given rise to a window of opportunity for alternative politics in the country.

Alternative politics should not be based just on realignment of parties but should be realignment of voters, he added.

AAP has proved that alternative politics in the country was viable and the anti-corruption movement of Anna Hazare had unleashed a positive energy into Indian politics, he said.

The lecture was organised in memory of Journalist N Narendran.
