In a bizarre case, a man in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh chopped off his wife’s tongue when she objected to his drinking habits.

The incident was reported from Colonelganj area of Kanpur district. The police have registered a case against the husband who is on the run after committing the crime. The victim has been admitted at the LLR Hospital where she underwent a surgery to stop the bleeding.

Neighbours told the police that Shakil Ahmed (40), a small-time vendor, was addicted to drugs and alcohol. Father of four children, he will often pick-up fights with his wife Gudia (32) and beat her up in inebriated state whenever she requested him to quit bad habits for the sake of their children.

“On Friday night, he returned home drunk. When Gudia objected, he thrashed her badly and then took a scissor and slashed her tongue in anger. He fled after the incident. We informed the police and took profusely bleeding Gudia to the hospital,” said a neighbour.

His younger daughter, who is a witness to the crime, has lodged a police complaint against her father. “We have registered a case against Shakil and attempts are being made to arrest him,” said Atul Srivastava, the SHO Colonelganj.     

Earlier, a 40-year-old husband, suffering from oral cancer, had murdered his wife for not having sex with her in Chhijarsi Village in Noida district last month. Married in Noida 17 years ago, Mamta had shifted to her brother’s place in Noida after finding a job to support her family and arrange money for husband’s cancer treatment.

Her husband Mahesh alias Ajay joined her on July 10. On July 11, he tried to have sex with his wife and when Mamta refused seeing her medical condition, he got infuriated and strangulated her. He was later arrested by the police.
