The BJP Vice-President of Rae Bareli Mandal Gangsagar Pandey (45) was brutally slaughtered with sharp-edged weapons, allegedly by his neighbours in Rae Breali, the parliamentary constituency of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandh.

Sujata Singh, SP Rae Bareli has suspended Inspector RS Yadav and a constable HC Sharma for dereliction of duties in connection with the murder of the senior BJP leader.

Denying any political motive, the SP said that dispute with neighbours over construction of a drain was the reason behind Pandey’s murder.

“We have registered a case against nine and arrested two persons, including the main accused Lalchandra Shukla, who had attacked the victim with sharp-edged weapons,” said Singh.

Family sources claimed that the BJP leader had gone out to the market to buy medicines at around 5 pm on Wednesday when he attacked by nine persons, including Shukla, and others who have been identified as Soni Shukla, Akhilesh and Mohit, with sharp-edged weapons. They had a verbal spat in the morning over construction of a drain.

He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by doctors.  Senior police officials, including the SP, rushed to the spot but the assailants had escaped.

Agitated local BJP leaders gathered at the hospital and later gheraoed the Shivgarh Police Station demanding immediate arrest of the assailants. The police swung into action and arrested two persons, including the main accused Lalchandra Shukla, in connection with the murder.

The BJP leader’s family members alleged that he had lodged a complaint at the Shigarh Police Station on Wednesaday morning when his neighbours indulged in a heated exchange of words and threatened him with dire consequences if he did not allow the drain to be constructed. “But the police did not initiate any action on his complaint,” said a close relative.
