Amid reports of several IT companies laying off employees, a software engineer on Wednesday committed suicide in Maharashtra's Pune over concerns about his job security.

The engineer who has been identified as Gopikrishna Durgaprasad (25) was a resident of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh and had started working in Pune three days ago.

Durgaprasad left a suicide note written and signed in English, saying he was worried for his family, reported Hindustan Times.

“In IT there is no job security. I’m worried a lot about my family,” he said in a note found in his hotel room in Viman Nagar, an accommodation provided by the company

Durgaprasad had worked in Delhi, Hyderabad and had recently started working in a software company in Pune, said police.

API Jaisinghkar said, "The engineer inflicted 25 cuts on his left wrist with a knife. When that did not work out, he went to the terrace of the four-storied hotel and jumped to his death."

His relative said that there was nothing to suggest his actions. "I do not know what happened,” said his relative Venkatrao Murthy.
