In Bahrain, Prime Minister Narendra Modi boasts of India's prowess

On Sunday, the PM will participate at a Janmashtami event in Gulf's oldest temple — the Shreenathji [Shree Krishna] Hindu Temple in Bahrain, built by the Thattai Hindu community that had arrived from Sindh in undivided India.

Ending the UAE leg of his three-nation trip, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bahrain on Saturday and adressed the Indian diaspora there. He said the focus is to make India a $5-trillion economy, adding that there is an increased "self-confidence of India and Indians" over the last five years as "India is making improvement in every global ranking."

He said that India is one of the most digitally connected countries and this has made banking available to many in India. "BHIM app, UPI and Jan Dhan have brought banking within reach of the common man," he said.

He also announced that RuPay Card will soon be launched in Bahrain as well after an MoU was signed regarding this on Saturday.

In what is his first trip to Bahrain, the PM and Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa also held comprehensive talks which included a wide range of subjects concerning India-Bahrain relations.

On Sunday, the PM will participate at a Janmashtami event in Gulf's oldest temple — the Shreenathji [Shree Krishna] Hindu Temple in Bahrain, built by the Thattai Hindu community that had arrived from Sindh in undivided India. He will also launch the temple's renovation as well. The 200-year-old Shree Krishna temple was built in 1817 and is situated in Bahrain's capital Manama.

"There is an old relationship between Gujrat and Bahrain. I'll be going to the temple and pray for the well-being of all of you. This temple is a reflection of your faith and tribute to Bahrain's multiculturalism," he said on Saturday.

He said the focus is to make India a $5-trillion economy, adding that there is an increased “self-confidence of India and Indians” over the last five years
