Impossible for Narendra Modi to be PM, says Congress after snub from BSP, TMC

As Trinamool Congress and BSP snubbed BJP over supporting it in government formation, Congress today said it is "impossible" for Narendra Modi to become Prime Minister as he will not have "adequate seats and allies".

"As things stand today, BJP or NDA cannot get allies to form the government. Every important political party... is moving away from BJP and Narendra Modi.

"This is something what we have been been saying right from the beginning that it will be impossible for Modi to become Prime Minister and BJP to come to power. They will not get adequate number of seats and adequate number of allies to form the government," party General Secretary Ajay Maken told reporters.

He said that UPA-III will be coming to power

The Congress leader's remarks came as BSP supremo Mayawati and Trinamool Congress ruled out any post-poll tie-up with the BJP-led NDA after Modi suggested yesterday that criticism of each other during polls did not automatically shut the door on possible alliances.

"This can also be a strategy to keep the door open," Modi had responded cryptically when asked if his attacks did not close the door on tie-ups with these parties.

Also, BJP general secretary Amit Shah today said his party does not believe in "political untouchability" and is open to support from any party.
