The eastern end of the monsoon trough continues to run close to the foothills of The Himalayas, the IMD said, and the western end runs north of its normal position.

In the next 24-48 hours, the entire monsoon trough will likely shift close to the foothills of The Himalayas, the IMD said, adding that it will cause a weak monsoon spell over India from Tuesday.

The weather department said Jharkhand from August 10-13 will witness isolated heavy falls, as well as Gangetic West Bengal, will witness rainfall from August 11-13.

Meanwhile, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh are 'very likely' to witness fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours in the coming four-five days.

It is 'very likely' that isolated heavy to very heavy rainfalls will be witnessed over the northeast, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during the upcoming five days.

While, rainfall, influenced by strong southwesterly or southerly winds from the Bay of Bengal, will intensify in the region from Wednesday. This, as result, can bring isolated extremely heavy falls over Assam and Meghalaya during August 11-13, the IMD said.

The IMD also said that Uttarakhand can witness fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls during the next five days, and whereas Himachal Pradesh can expect on August 12-13.

Tamil Nadu in the coming five days can witness scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, the IMD said, while Kerala can expect isolated heavy downpour in the coming three days.

'Subdued' rainfall can be witnessed over the remaining parts of the plains of northwest India namely Punjab, Haryana, western Rajasthan, the IMD said, most parts of peninsular India including Maharashtra and Gujarat.
