IM operative Siddibapa arrested in a 'carefully calibrated operation', says NIA

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday said the arrest of alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Abdul Wahid Siddibapa was a 'carefully calibrated operation' and not a case of deportation or extradition.

"Indian Mujahideen suspect Abdul Wahid Siddibapa hasn't been deported or extradited. It was carefully calibrated operation," said NIA Inspector General Sanjeev Kumar Singh. 

A NIA court had earlier today sent Siddibapa, who is said to be a cousin of IM's chief Yasin Bhatkal, to seven-day police custody. 

Siddibapa, a resident of Bhatkal in Karnataka, was arrested by the agency after his arrival from Dubai at the Indira Gandhi International Airport earlier this morning. He was arrested following a Red Corner Notice issued against him. 

As per reports, Abdul is wanted in a case pertaining to a conspiracy by IM to attack various places in India. He is said to have left for Dubai much before the crackdown on the IM had started in 2008. Siddibapa also allegedly funded the IM activities from Dubai.
