An illegal gun factory has been busted leading to seizure of arms and ammunition and the arrest of seven persons in Bhagalpur district of Bihar on Wednesday.

Two carbines, seven semi-finished pistols, 40 unfinished magazines, eight cartridges and a large number of weapon making equipment have been seized in the operation, Bhgalpur Senior Superintendent of Police Vivek Kumar said.

The illegal gun factory was operating in a mango orchard at Yustu village, the SSP said.

"We had received a tip-off that illegal arms were being manufactured round-the-clock in the village. Our teams surveyed the area and a raid was planned with personnel from several police stations," Kumar said.

The SSP said that the factory was being run by one Mohammad Moiuddin, who is among those arrested in the raid.

"Moiuddin has confessed that the gang involved in making illegal guns had an inter-state network and supplied weapons on demand. We are investigating the matter further," the SSP said.

Meanwhile, police is following the leads gathered during the raid and trying to trace other persons involved with illegal weapon making.
