The building collapse in Saudagar ni Pol and the subsequent drive of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation against illegal constructions it seems has had no effect in the walled city.

Krushnavadan Brahmbhatt, corporator from Kalupur has informed top officials of AMC that illegal construction is in full swing in areas like Kalupur, Dariapur, Jamalpur, and Raikhad. He alleged that the estate department is neglecting the illegal construction which can again lead to another building collapse.

The building collapse in Saudagar ni Pol had killed six people. According to Brahmbhatt, there are 20 to 25 such buildings in Kalupur area alone, which are being built without any permission from the AMC's estate department.  "These are among just some of the illegal constructions that were brought to my notice," claimed Brahmbhatt.

He has handed over the list of such buildings to the central zone deputy municipal commissioner IK Patel. According to the list, areas which have rampant illegal constructions include Saudagar ni Pol, Suigara ni Pol, Navi Maholat ni Pol, and Haranwali pol, among others. "If the corporation conducts proper investigation, it will find more than 400 such illegal buildings, which are either occupied by the residents or are under construction," said Brahmbhatt.

DyMC of central zone IK Patel said he received a list of such illegal buildings from Brahmbhatt some three days ago and assured him of action.
