When we think of going to the dentist, the first thing that comes to mind is the pain. Now researchers at IIT Madras have developed a new type of filling for those who are getting their teeth filled. The new type of filling is also said to be safe as compared to the traditional fillings. A leading newspaper states that because these fillings do not shrink, they are pain-free and long-lasting.

Dr V Susila Anand, Madha Dental College and Hospital professor and head, department of conservative dentistry and endodontics, was also involved in this research. She told the daily that the formulation of this new filling was unique and the chemicals in it will not affect the endocrine system. She also stated that the research had a three-speared approach - to reduce the sensitivity post the filling, prevent shrinkage and improve biological safety for patients.

Venkatesh Balasubramanian, department of engineering design professor at IIT-M, has told the daily that this new chemical formulation was put through a lot of tests to check its stability.
