If you are scared for your life, surrender in court: Delhi High Court to Honeypreet Insan.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Honeypreet Insan, the 'adopted daughter' of rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
The court in its order observed that applicant is just seeking more time by moving such an application.
“Delhi High Court stated she does not deserve bail because she is evading arrest,” Prosecution lawyer was quoted as saying by the ANI.
“The court said this is time pass; she filed application before Delhi High Court whereas she should have done that in Punjab and Haryana High Court,” the Prosecution lawyer said.
“The court said we need to see bonafides whether the person actually resides in the jurisdiction of the concerned court. As far as surrender is concerned, it is left to her,” Prosecution lawyer added.
Honeypreet Insan's lawyer said that they would study the order.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday was hearing the anticipatory bail plea of Honeypreet, who approached the court saying that she is ready to cooperate in the probe from the day after tomorrow.
The court, however, asked her why she didn't approach Punjab and Haryana High Court instead.
Her lawyer claimed that she fears for her life and hence has come to Delhi High Court. At this point, the court asked Honeypreet to surrender in court if she fears for her life.
In her bail plea, Honeypreet has said that she is a single woman with clean antecedents, adding, "I am a law-abiding woman and willing to join the investigation."
After the hearing, the Delhi High Court has reserved its order on Honeypreet's bail plea.
Honeypreet also tops the list of 43 persons 'wanted' by the Haryana Police in connection with incidents of violence that had followed Ram Rahim's conviction in the rape cases.
Ram Rahim was convicted by the special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25, following which violence and arson had erupted in Panchkula and Sirsa districts of Haryana which had left 41 people dead and several others injured.
The CBI court on August 28 had sentenced Ram Rahim to 20 years in prison for raping two of his disciples in 2002.
Missing since the sentencing of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in the rape case, Honeypreet Insan has an interesting past.
From dusty, nondescript Fatehabad to sprawling campus of Dera Sacha Sauda in Sirsa, Priyanka Taneja aka Honey Preet Insan has come a long distance.
Honey Preet Insan, who was seen as the shadow of rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh for past few days was also likely successor of Dera Sacha Sauda chief.
Her official page identifies her as 'great daughter of an amazing father'.
But how Honey Preet rose in ranks at the Dera is an intriguing story.
It was in 1999 when Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh got Priyanka Taneja married to one Vishwas Gupta, a Dera follower, and gave her the name Honey Preet Insan.
However, marital bliss eluded Honey Preet and she complained to Gurmeet Ram Rahim that her in-laws were harassing her for dowry.
After 10 years of constant bickering, Honey Preet moved to the Dera along with her husband and Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh adopted both of them in 2009.
This adoption helped Vishwas Gupta in his business and Honey Preet grew closer to Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
But things took a strange turn, when Vishwas Gupta filed for divorce in Punjab and Haryana High court in 2011. In his plea, he accused Honey Preet of having an 'illicit relationship' with the Baba. He also accused the Dera chief of keeping his wife away from him. Soon, the court granted them divorce.
Though Honey Preet is understood to be Dera chief's successor, Ram Rahim had anointed his son Jasmeet as his successor after he was made an accused in the rape and sexual exploitation case in 2007.
Her social media accounts describe her as “PAPA's ANGEL, Philanthropist, Director, Editor, Actress!! Passionate to transform my Rockstar Papa's directions into actions!”
With over 5 lakh followers on her Facebook page, Honey Preet's timeline is full of posts glorifying her 'papa'.
She has acted opposite him in movies such as MSG 2 and MSG- The Warrior Lion Heart.
“This 'Baap Beti ki Jodi' has set a benchmark through hard work,” her official page talks about her cinematic triumphs.
Recently, her ex-husband made some startling revelations about her relationship with Ram Rahim.
Vishwas Gupta claimed that Honeypreet wasn’t Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter and no legal adoption process had taken place.
He also said that the godman was sleeping with his ex-wife Honeypreet. He said that he caught her nude with Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who threatened him and told him not to tell anyone.
