The West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has asked its party members to hit back at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) if they are attacked by party workers of the Mamata Banerjee-led party.

“If you are attacked and assaulted, don’t call us. If your houses are ransacked, then don’t call us. If you can break the hand of the TMC member who has attacked you, then call us up and say that you have done so,” BJP state secretary Sayantan Basu said at a public meeting at Memari in East Burdwan district on Saturday.

Basu said that if TMC workers assumed that they could unleash violence with the help of the state police, then their ‘days were numbered’. “No TMC leader will be able to help you. Whenever we want, our party members will drag you out of your homes,” he warned.

He also sent a note of warning to police officers citing the example of former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh who was targeted by the Criminal Investigating Department (CID). “Just see what has been the fate of Bharati Ghosh. If you try to create too much trouble, we all know which police officer has what kind of property and assets. We also know which TMC leader has what kind of property. We can arrange for a raid by the Income Tax department,” he said.

Basu also alleged that CM Mamata Banerjee had sent the CID after Ghosh as she was rattled by the rise of the BJP’s popularity in the state. “CID has no information about any of the criminal activities going on at several districts because they are all busy raiding Ghosh,” he claimed.
